A New Missions Paradigm

Sunday, May 29. New Life in Christ Bible Church, Biñan, Laguna. Steve declared God’s love for the world and Paul’s ambition to take the good news to those who have not yet heard. Over half the congregation of about 70 stood to declare their commitment to God’s agenda to take the gospel of Christ to the unreached!

It seems this tremendous response reflects how the Holy Spirit is presently moving in the Filipino church. Passion to take the gospel to the lost no matter the cost grows increasingly. Often this means to the 10/40 Window—that portion of the globe with the highest concentration of Muslim, Buddhist, and Hindu followers. The latest aggressive faith goal hopes to propel 1,000,000 tent-making missionaries (yes, that’s correct) into these needy countries by 2020!

How can a relatively poor country like the Philippines accomplish such an optimistic goal? A paradigm shift in missions grows here. Rather than the wealthy local church sending missionaries into the field, those needing salvation are paying the missionaries to come to them! Eight million Filipinos already serve as OFWs (Overseas Filipino Workers). The evangelical church in the Philippines recruits and equips these tent-making missionaries. Systems to care for left-behind families rise up, along with legal representation for those who suffer “opposition.” Spine-tingling, courageous faith accounts boast of God’s power, love, goodness, transformation.

We are in the Philippines to mentor ministers and mobilize missionaries. Thank you for helping, through your prayer and financial assistance, to serve in these exciting times!
